Pirch Help

I've been using Pirch98 as a chat program on my computer for years now without having any problems at all. However, a couple of weeks ago when I clicked on it it opened fine, but when I click the button that brings up the box to actually connect to a server the entire program just freezes up on me and I have to go to the task manager in order to shut it down. I've never seen this before and have no clue why it would be doing this all of a sudden. I hadn't downloaded anything new or made any changes that could cause this. It just stopped working. It freezes every single time I click the "Login" button. If anyone may have some idea about why this is happening I would appreciate any help. I've already tried re-installing it and it doesn't help.

First of all, Welcome to the forum

Well, I haven't ever used Pirch in my whole life hehe, but when I saw your post I decided to give it a try. I downloaded it and ran it, and it ran smoothly without any hangs. You can maybe goto your Pirch folder (where you installed Pirch) and make a backup copy of the file 'Pirch98.ini' and then delete the original file and after that, try to run Pirch. That would fix it, I guess.

And also, which version of Pirch are you using? I downloaded the 1.0.1190 version from here: http://www.pirch.com/software.html and it ran perfectly (its faster than mIRC )

And btw,
Why do you want to use Pirch? Its outdated (I saw it is for Win 95/NT). Try using mIRC - www.mirc.com/ or Xchat - www.xchat.org/ or IceChat - www.icechat.net/

I don't know... must be some setting on my computer that's making Pirch not work. I can't seem to find out what though and I've looked everywhere I can think of. I downloaded Mirc and Ice Chat and they both work, so it's not blocking chat in general. I've tried uninstalling Pirch, running registry cleaners, spyware cleaners and anti-virus then a disk defrag and cleaner, then restarted and downloaded a new Pirch from the website you posted and it still won't work. Strange.

Anyway, I'll keep messing with it, as I really would prefer to get my Pirch working because I have so much of what I need saved on it, but in the meantime any other ideas anyone has that could help would be great.
